Woodford village is ideally situated about 13 miles South of Manchester, 7 miles South of Stockport, and 6 miles North of Macclesfield. It forms a semi rural area of mainly ribbon development with open aspect to the Southern Section of the Pennines and the Peak District National Park.
Bordering the Cheshire countryside, the majority of the area is laid out to the farming community. Good access is provided to countryside and villages, shopping centres, towns, both state and independent schools, Manchester Airport, and a bypass to Motorway links. All of which are close at hand but fortunately not intrusive upon the area.
The "Spritual Centre" is Christ Church Woodford built between 1837 and 1839, subsequently consecrated in 1872. Almost opposite is found the Davenport Arms (Thief's Neck) Pub ( by the bus terminus for those not wishing to drive !). An active community centre offers facilities for many activities ranging from Bridge to Badminton, and Country Dancing to Blues Nights, in addition to being a venue for Parties, Balls and of course a Major 5th November Bonfire Night and firework display. Home to a BAE factory which, as Avro's, worked on the Lancaster, and later produced the Vulcan Bomber, Woodford hosts an impressive Garden Centre, and along with other businesses such as Fielding's Transport, a Brick Market, Garage, Bodycote Heat Treatments, a Kennels and Cattery, our shops include a small supermarket, bathroom design centre, and of course options for " beautification" in the form of a hairdressers, tanning and beauty salon. There are in addition local services to be found in the form of accountancy, investment, dentists, and physiotherapy whilst the local hotel offers banqueting, function rooms, high class accommodation, and leisure centre. Within a couple of miles are Bramhall, Wilmslow, and Poynton offering further facilities. For the young, social, and or active, Woodford is also home to two cricket teams, a scout and guide troup, British Legion Club, a golf course, golf driving range, and at least two equine centres. There are also good rugby, football, health and fitness, and tennis clubs nearby. |
